Responsible volunteering

Putting the projects’ needs first

Changing lives in the UK and Africa

International volunteering is a powerful movement that, when carried out in the right way, can be a force for good, helping to change lives: both of the volunteers and the children at our partner projects (see Project Partnerships).

International volunteering provides an education that you just cannot get in the UK. It offers an insight into a new culture and a different way of life. It encourages deeper thinking, community participation and empathy, and gives people a greater understanding of both global citizenship and responsibility.

Volunteers as young as eight and as old as 83 have travelled with us – each with something special to offer.

We are all too aware that international volunteering, if approached in the wrong way, can do more harm than good, and that is why we take our responsibility as the organiser seriously. We are in it for the long haul, we are responsibly motivated, and we are always looking for ways to improve the service we provide.

Firstly, we will not compromise on our belief that the community project comes first (visit Project Partnerships). Secondly, we commit to providing the right information to our volunteers to prepare them for their trip. In a 2019 survey, 94% of respondents said their trip met or exceeded their expectations; we are delighted with this feedback, because our aim is to support our volunteers through every step of the process, and to provide them with an amazing experience that has a lasting impact on their life.
