Responsible volunteering

Changing lives in the UK and Africa

International volunteering is a powerful movement that, when carried out in the right way, can be a force for good, helping to change lives at projects (see Project Partnerships) and for those taking part. International volunteering provides an education that cannot be replicated at home. It offers an unparallelled insight into a new culture and a different way of life. It encourages critical thinking, community participation and tolerance, and gives people a greater understanding of both global citizenship and responsibility.

Volunteers as young as 12 and as old as 83 have travelled with us – each one with something unique to offer. We are acutely aware that international volunteering is not without criticism; if approached in the wrong way, we agree that it can do more harm than good. That is why we take our responsibility as the organiser seriously. We are in it for the long haul, we are responsibly motivated, and we are committed to continually improve the service we offer projects and volunteers.

Firstly, we will not compromise on our belief that the community project comes first. Visit our Project Partnerships page to find out more. Secondly, we commit to providing the right information and advice to our volunteers in order to prepare them for their trip. In 2018, 95% of our volunteers who were surveyed said that their trip met or exceeded their expectations. We are delighted with this feedback because our aim is to inform and support our volunteers through every step of the process, and to provide them with an amazing experience that has an impact on their life.
