Star Fundraisers – A big “thank you” to the Oakwood Spitfires

We are giving the Oakwood Spitfires a special feature in our blog this week – as Star Fundraisers – because they have been doing a fantastic job fundraising for the African Adventures Foundation!

As many of you will have seen, the African Adventures Foundation is currently running its 2015 Christmas Meal Appeal campaign, with the aim of raising £5,000 to provide Christmas parties for all 20,000 children at our partner projects in Africa. The African Adventures Foundation is running the appeal in support of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and aims to make sure that no child across our 16 partner projects goes hungry this Christmas.

Last Saturday, the Oakwood Spitfires, an under 7’s football team who play in the Lordswood area of Southampton, contributed a tremendous £750 of this target having organised their own penalty shoot-out for the Foundation’s Christmas Meal Appeal. The boys had a really fun day and were thrilled with the support they received from friends, family and the local community.

Upon learning that £200 would feed a whole school in Africa, the team’s manager, James Crocker, set this as the target for their fundraising. However, with overwhelming support from the boys’ family and friends, the total amount raised was closer to £750!

James was very proud of the boys’ efforts and grateful to everyone who donated: “It’s a great pleasure to support the African Adventures Foundation’s work. Especially as we were able to raise a fantastic amount of money playing the sport we all love. I am extremely proud of every player who took part and thank everyone who supported the boys with their kind donations.”

Our Star Fundarisers raised money for the Christmas Meal Appeal

The Christmas Meal Appeal has now reached £1,943 on Virgin Money Giving and with the figure from Oakwood Spitfires, our current total is just short of £2,700. This means that over the next three weeks we will be making the final push to reach £5,000, an ambitious feat but with our supporters contributing any small amount they can, we believe it is achievable.

The African Adventures Foundation would like to say a huge thank you to Oakwood Spitfires for their fantastic fundraising efforts and their incredibly generous donation to the Christmas Meal Appeal. With Gift Aid added to their donation the Foundation will be able to feed 4,000 children in Africa, and it is all thanks to the boys at Oakwood Spitfires! We hope they all have a very happy Christmas and wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

We look forward to sharing photos with everyone from the Christmas parties in Africa over the coming weeks!
