This our busiest-ever summer programme, and were excited to see our 4,000th volunteer travel to Africa with us. Over the last three months we have delivered trips for more than 25 groups in Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar and we are grateful to volunteers for the time they have dedicated to our partner projects.
Ghana was especially busy this summer programme with several new school groups and Girlguiding LASER volunteering across Aklorbordzi, Ashata, Dornorgbor, Dziedzorve, Faith International, Rhema, Shalom, Woe EP and The Lord’s Academy projects. Volunteers worked hard teaching as well as assisting with building and renovation work, moulding and laying bricks for classrooms and a canteen, as well as constructing perimeter walls.
In Kenya, we welcomed new and returning groups and volunteers enjoyed teaching and delivering fun-filled sporting activities at newer projects, Cherish and Lion Hill, as well as The Walk Centre (check out The Big Build Kenya photos), Prisons Primary, St Trizah, Hadassah, Ungana and Jubilee. Volunteers supported builders with the construction of new classrooms, school facilities (including a kitchen), and perimeter walls.
In Zanzibar, we welcomed Burton Albion Community Trust to Fuoni School where they spent their time delivering lessons and painting three classrooms to create a more vibrant teaching environment.
