Rachel Northover

I am the Marketing and Communications Manager at African Adventures. I have been with the organisation since 2013, and it is amazing to see how far we have come in the past few years, and the increased impact we are having with our work.

My role is to effectively communicate what we do, and our core values as a company, with a view to encouraging more people to take an incredible trip to Africa with us, and to raise awareness of the barriers to education in our host destinations. I have a passionate and hardworking team around me who produce great content for our websites, presentations, social media, and the various other platforms that we use.

I am proud of the work that our team delivers, and the way that the company’s ethos is always at the heart of everything that we do. I was particularly proud when we won Best Volunteering Organisation at the British Youth Travel Awards in late 2018; this was a culmination of a lot of hard work and the recognition of years of unwavering commitment to responsible volunteering.

African Adventures is unashamedly different to many travel companies because the focus of our trips is volunteering, with a healthy dose of fun and adventure on the side; we are proud of this. We are a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, meaning we have committed to supporting and advancing their core principles regarding human rights, protecting the environment, labour and anti-corruption. I am heavily involved in this work and find it a great driver which gives our work even greater focus and meaning.

Outside of work I am a keen sportswoman so (when I am not injured!) you are likely to find me at Park Run or on the netball court. I have two sons and love spending time with family and friends, as well as reading, watching box sets, and doing anything else that gives me an escape from reality for a short while.
