As Volunteer Programmes Manager, I oversee the management of all our group trips and our programmes in Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar, ensuring that all volunteers are fully prepared for their experience ahead.
I offer advice and support to group leaders, helping them to decide which volunteer programme is most appropriate for their organisation. As a team, we then co-ordinate all aspects of the trip, from launch through to departure, helping to make the entire experience as simple and hassle-free as possible for our group leaders.
I am passionate about responsible volunteering and the sustainable development of our partner projects in Africa; these are two of the reasons I enjoy working for African Adventures. Our focus on project-led development ensures that we are only ever responding to existing needs and that our work is always meaningful to the communities we work with. Our recent commitment to align our work with the UN Sustainable Development Goals also helps keep the focus of our work on the global goal of a more sustainable future for all, and I am proud to be a key member of the team working on this.
I am also really excited by the commitments we are making to reduce our impact on the environment, such as the introduction of reusable filter bottles that will be given to each volunteer and offsetting our emissions through the distribution of energy saving stoves to communities in Ghana.
Outside of work I love being outdoors, whether it’s playing tennis with friends, skiing or snowboarding in winter or throwing a tent in the car in summer. As a bit of a geography geek, I also have a real passion for travelling – exploring different countries, meeting new people and learning about other cultures.
