Job Title: Finance Assistant
Remuneration: £12.74 per hour / £13,249 (£24,843 FTE), plus company bonus scheme.
Location: Eastleigh, Hampshire (Monday-Wednesday in office, option to work from home on Thursday).
Start Date: September 2023

African Adventures organises life-changing trips for groups of schools, colleges and charities to volunteer at the 25 schools we work with in developing areas of Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar.
We’re a unique organisation that’s both tour operator and development agency. We provide a comprehensive travel service to our volunteer groups, organising everything from their flights and accommodation to their pre-departure support and fundraising ideas, whilst working closely with our partner schools in Africa to ensure we improve school facilities and educational opportunities for their students.
About You
We are excited to be looking for a new Finance Assistant to join our growing team. This is an exciting opportunity to take on an interesting and challenging role at a unique company. It would suit a friendly, hard-working, and organised person, driven by an interest in people and numbers.
You’ll have at least two years’ experience in a similar or transferable role, and hold a diploma/certification in accounting or finance (e.g. AAT Level 2), or be working towards the qualification.
The role is a new position, and as the company grows, there may be the opportunity for the role to turn into a full-time position.
Core Responsibilities
- Prepare and post receipts, deposits, invoices, refunds, and other standard bookkeeping tasks.
- Review and process reimbursements for staff expenses in accordance with Company’s expense policy.
- Receive, process, and pay invoices to vendors.
- Process invoices/credit notes using accounting software (Xero).
- Manage overdue invoices and carry out follow-ups as required via email/telephone.
- Reconciliation of current account from bank statements.
- Maintain records of invoices, bills etc.
- Respond to finance-related queries from customers via telephone/email.
- Undertake general administration duties for the finance team.
What We're Looking For
Skills/Experience
Minimum two years’ experience in a similar or transferable role
Diploma/certification in accounting or finance (AAT Level 2 or equivalent)
Highly organised
Friendly, team-orientated attitude

Strong written and communication skills
Positive attitude to problem solving
Good IT skills
Experience of working in the school, travel or charity sector
