My role as the Volunteer Recruitment Manager at African Adventures is based within the groups team and I am responsible for the volunteers that we recruit to send to Ghana, Kenya and Zanzibar. Along with two others in the team, I travel the country delivering presentations to potential groups and also attend meetings with senior leaders to promote the African Adventures experience.
I joined the team in August 2018 and it’s been incredible; I knew immediately that the company would be different to any previous employers I’d had. Within the first three months, I found myself travelling to Ghana to experience one of our trips. It was brilliant to be a volunteer helping local school children by building a new classroom and coaching football. The experience of giving something back, and spending time with children who materially have so little and yet have so much joy and spirit, made me realise there is another way of life and we shouldn’t take things for granted. It was amazing to go to Ghana and make a difference for the short time I was there.
The African Adventures team are incredible; we all have a ‘work-hard, play-hard’ attitude and have one common goal that we all work towards, which is to create more opportunity in education for the children in our host destinations. The team is very passionate about what we do, and we are all motivated and driven to succeed in our different roles.
In my spare time, I am very passionate about sport. I have a degree in PE & Sports Coaching and played rugby to a high standard during my younger years. I am currently a rugby referee at the weekends, which is highly rewarding. The ability to still be involved in the game is something that I really enjoy, and each game is different, which means I face different challenges week in week out!
