Our youngest supporters are fundraising for The Big Build Kenya

Dan Mew

We would like to thank some of our youngest supporters from First Steps Childcare in Bersted, Brinsbury and Chichester for their fantastic fundraising efforts for The Big Build Kenya. Each nursery came up with different ideas on how they could raise money whilst having lots of fun learning about Africa. Through bake sales, fun days, face painting and dress up, raffles, sponsored events and the generosity of staff and families, they raised an incredible £4,738! What is even more impressive is that we understand there is more fundraising in the pipeline. A big well done to you all!

The Big Build Kenya is an exciting and transformational project in partnership with Chichester College to construct a new primary school at African Adventures’ flagship partner school, The Walk Centre. The site currently holds a pre-primary school for 250 students, many of whom live on and around the town’s dumpsite, in one of the poorest suburbs of Nakuru. The Walk Centre provides young children a daily safe haven where they can receive a free education and nutritious meals, which would otherwise be out of reach for most of them.

It is wonderful to see that the children of West Sussex are starting to learn, from such a young age, more about the wider world and about the lives of children in Africa. For children at pre-primary level to be learning about other cultures and already be thinking about how they can help others less privileged than themselves is lovely to see. Perhaps we will see some of them embarking on an African Adventures trip with us in the future!  Keep up the fantastic work First Steps!
