After months of planning, the night was finally here; raffle prizes collected, auction lots sourced and prepared, tables beautifully laid, and attendees dressed up and ready to celebrate!
There was a real buzz in the air as people arrived; the African Drums being played certainly created a fitting atmosphere to prepare people for the evening ahead. The venue looked fantastic and the glass of prosecco on arrival was a lovely welcoming touch as people made their way into the room, looking for friends and acquaintances that they would share their evening with.
This was the fourth fundraising dinner in aid of African Adventures Foundation, but this one felt just a little different from the rest; it carried extra meaning, as it was also to celebrate 10 years since African Adventures began. There was nervous anticipation amongst the African Adventures team; everyone hoping that all the hard work would pay off and result in a successful night enjoyed by all – they needn’t have worried.
To mark the impressive milestone that African Adventures has reached, we created two videos celebrating 10 years of the company, to share our story with everyone attending. The videos – with lively, uplifting music, and full of birthday messages, company milestones, and achievements – were so well received and only served to add to the inclusive, warm atmosphere that filled the room.
The attendance of Fred, our In-Country Coordinator for Kenya, made the evening extra special – after three years of trying to get him to one of our fundraising dinners, it meant so much that he could finally be there, as part of his first-ever visit to the UK.
Another fantastic aspect of the evening was the African drumming that took place after the meal – you couldn’t help but want to get up on the dancefloor to move to the amazing beats that were being played. The energetic band really got the party started and this continued when the DJ took over the floor. When looking for a break from dancing, guests could visit the African craft market, full of amazing ornaments, bags, and various other souvenirs from Kenya and Ghana. And, with some incredible prizes and lots on offer, the raffle and auction both provided the opportunity to take away a nice surprise from the dinner.
A fantastic amount was raised on the night through these various platforms – £9,400. More than this, though, the night was a very special opportunity to celebrate those important people that have got the company and the charity to where they are today; to thank the volunteers that have become a part of the African Adventures family and to come together with them to acknowledge the incredible things that have happened over the years with their support.
There are too many people to mention here but you know who you are. Once again, Thank you! Thank you for making the dinner a night to remember and thank you for all you have done and all you continue to do in support of African Adventures.
